US Telecommunications Company CenturyLink Acquires Fully Managed Database Services Provider Orchestrate
US telecommunications company CenturyLink has acquired fully managed database services provider Orchestrate. The company, which is an S&P 500 company and on the Fortune 500 list of America's largest corporations, has headquarters in Monroe, Louisiana, USA. It is the third largest telecommunications company in the US and offers data, voice and managed services alongside cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for businesses. Its purchase of Orchestrate is intended to bolster its cloud platform and develop new database capabilities.

Portland, Oregon-based Orchestrate offers scalable databases that allow organizations to manage their various business functions. Its managed NoSQL databases "save organizations the headaches of running their own instances" and provide "full-text search, time series, graph and key-value storage through a single, simple API". Its services also enable developers to cut application development time.
Orchestrate will transfer its Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) activity to CenturyLink and the company's data services staff will also be absorbed by CenturyLink. Antony Falco and Ian Plosker, currently Orchestrate's CEO and CTO and its original founders, also join CenturyLink, as does Dave Smith, Orchestrate's Vice President of Engineering.

"CenturyLink's customers, like most enterprises, are expressing interest in solutions that help them meet the performance, scalability and agile development needs of large-scale big data analytics," explained CenturyLink's President and Chief Executive Officer, Glen F. Post, III. "The Orchestrate database service's ease of use and ability to support multiple database technologies have emerged as key differentiators that we are eager to offer our customers through the CenturyLink Cloud platform."
