Verizon Aquires MCI for $6.8 Billion

February 14, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - The Wall Street Journal today reported that MCI has accepted a Verizon bid for $6.8 billion in cash and stocks.

A similar bid failed in 2001 (when MCI was called WorldCom) over fears that Verizon would uncover an $11bn accounting scandal.

Despite this and MCI's recent emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, MCI has a large web hosting infrastructure in place and a solid hosting base via its acquisition of Digex.
