March 22, 2007 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) A number of reports have suggested that British company Virgin Media is likely to purchase Pipex (http://www.pipex.com/), a telecoms and broadband provider whose service offerings include web hosting. First-round bids for the company are expected by tomorrow (Friday).
Pipex, which has a market capital of 335 million pounds (660 million dollars), has been available since the beginning of March. Analysts have suggested BT Group, BSkyB, Carphone Warehouse and mobile operators may be interested in Pipex's broadband business, while private equity groups might take an interest in the companys web hosting operation, 123-reg (http://www.123-reg.co.uk/).
Purportedly the UK's largest web host, Pipexs services include a range of shared hosting options, dedicated servers, email hosting, domain registration and dial up options. The companys corporate website includes InstantSite, a collection of website templates.
