1&1 is offering a free "Sitelock Promotion", the company announced recently. The SiteLock feature allows 1&1 customers to scan for "design vulnerabilities" that might impact website security. The UK-based host's promotion will be in effect until the end of 2012 and is available for all domains, eShop contracts, and for the period of any new shared hosting account. The normal price for the 1&1 SiteLock Basic solution is £0.99 ($1.5) per month plus VAT and 1&1 customers can order it before December 31, 2012.
According to 1&1, viruses and malware “can change on an hourly basis”. As many business websites collect data from their users, they leave websites and businesses open to abuse and reputation and brand damage. To counter this, 1&1’s SiteLock Basic solution scans “up to 25 designated website pages” once a month for SQL injections and cross site scripting (XSS), while the “Premium” version of the SiteLock solutions scans up to 500 pages. These scans determine if a website is distributing malware and establishes if third party applications need upgrades. The scans also determine “the potential for data breaches” and if a website has been compromised.
The solution notifies users of problem areas so they can be addressed immediately. Users can also show the “SiteLock Trust Seal” to indicate their websites are secure and free of malware.
