Web Host and Domain Registrar GoDaddy Acquires the Public Cloud Customer Division of Communications Company Apptix
Web host and domain registrar GoDaddy has acquired the public cloud customer division of communications company Apptix. Apptix, whose headquarters are in Herndon, Virginia, USA, provides a range managed and hosted business communication products and services. These include collaboration and communication tools such as Microsoft Office 365, managed and hosted Exchange email, VoIP, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Lync, each offered through SSAE 16-compliant data centers. The company also provides a number of cloud-based solutions such as Enterprise Backup.

Apptix predominantly caters to “mid-market and enterprise customers” and “blue chip channel partners”. Its offerings are utilized by around 400,000 users worldwide. GoDaddy’s acquisition of Apptix’s cloud customer base cost the company around $22.5 million. The money will be used to further develop Apptix’s managed services and extend its cloud infrastructure solutions.

GoDaddy is one of the largest web hosts and domain registrars in the world. Established in 1997 by American entrepreneur Bob Parsons, the company raised $460 million in an Initial Public Offer (IPO) on April 1, 2015. It caters to more than 12 million customers worldwide and manages in excess of 57 million domain names. GoDaddy’s success has been driven by a policy of supporting small businesses in their bid for a successful online presence. It has become a household name in the United States, especially recognized for its risqué Super Bowl advertising.

“This is a transforming event for Apptix,” explained Chris Mack, the company’s President. “This allows us to pursue our strategy of broadening our offering into managed services and to deliver customizable private and hybrid cloud solutions,” said. “The capital from this transaction provides Apptix with the resources necessary to support both organic and inorganic growth initiatives.”
