Web Host Fasthosts Launches New Cloud Platform
Web host Fasthosts Internet Ltd. has announced the launch of a new cloud platform, the Fasthosts Cloud Server platform. Established in 1999, the company is based in Gloucester, United Kingdom and offers services that include reseller web hosting, cloud-based storage, and domain registration. Its new platform offers enterprises of all sizes "a significant opportunity to improve the way IT is bought, used and managed".

Fasthosts' new platform leverages Microsoft System Centre 2012 R2, Microsoft Storage Spaces and Dell solutions to enable users to establish a cloud server that is tailored to their individual business needs. Options are priced from £11.99 ($19.26) plus Value Added Tax (VAT). The platform offers 3 standard configurations: Web Hosting Cloud, Developer Cloud or Productivity Cloud. However, the platform is flexible enough to enable users to "configure their own desired spec based upon their requirements" and it can be "reconfigured at any time easily without ever losing data or functionality". Resources are managed via Fasthosts’ proprietary control panel. Users can set real-time RAM, CPU and network usage, and resources can be increased or decreased to meet changes in business requirements.

The platform also offers a choice of operating systems - Microsoft Windows, Linux CentOS or Ubuntu - alongside burstable RAM which automatically increases RAM by up to 33% when spikes in activity occur. The system automatically reboots when required to do so and automatically recovers from failure to reduce downtime and protect data. The solution offers 100Mbps connectivity to 1Gbit/sec, but this can also be managed as required. Nightly backups enable users to roll back development changes, and the solution is underpinned by an SLA that guarantees 99.99% uptime.

“Our talented technical teams joined forces with Microsoft and Dell to deliver a Cloud platform on the latest technology," explained the General Manager at Fasthosts, Simon Yeoman. "We’ve made a multi-million pound investment to bring this industry-leading server range to market and are excited by the results.”
