GoDaddy has announced the acquisition of ecommerce company Plasso. GoDaddy, which has global headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States, was established in 1997. The company’s focus is on providing small and midsized companies with the tools they need for a successful web presence. These include shared hosting, dedicated server options, and Virtual Private Server (VPS) packages, each with features like a website builder that allows companies to establish their own web presence without the need of a developer. It is heavily involved in localization of its services and has staff in a number of countries providing support in local languages. The financial aspects of GoDaddy’s acquisition of Plasso have not been released.
Plasso was established in 2014 and is still a startup. The company has global headquarters in Carlsbad, California, United States. Its mission is to “make payments simple” by offering an ecommerce platform that allows the world’s entrepreneurs to “start, manage, and grow” a subscription-based business online. Plasso’s technology and staff will be absorbed by GoDaddy. “After taking a look at their new website builder, GoCentral, I could really see that GoDaddy is up to something new,” explained Plasso’s founder, Drew Wilson, in a statement.
“As of today we're officially starting to wind down Plasso. That means we'll be shutting down Plasso.com and the services we provide on January 14th, 2019,” explained the company’s website. “The tech and team behind Plasso have now moved over to GoDaddy. As it turned out, GoDaddy was gearing up to expand in a number of areas that align perfectly with what we do best. Plasso's tech will live on inside of GoDaddy and will help further their new e-commerce efforts, all with the goal to make it even easier for small businesses to thrive online.”
