HostGator has awarded a number of technology scholarships to university students. HostGator is an Endurance International Group (EIG) brand and has headquarters in Houston, Texas, United States. Established in 2002, the company offers shared, reseller, Virtual Private Server (VPS) and dedicated hosting options alongside Windows and WordPress hosting. HostGator’s scholarships were awarded as part of its 2018-2019 ‘Technology Student Scholarship’ program. The company has provided nine scholarships totalling $13,500 since 2016.
HostGator’s program helps college students “achieve their goals of graduating and entering the professional world” – a fitting gesture as HostGator was itself “founded in a college dorm room back in 2002”. Applicants write an essay to answer the question, “In what industry or area do you see technology making the largest impact in the next 10 years?” The best responses receive a $1,500 scholarship. This year’s winners are Sara Guerry from Radford University, who is studying social work; Nathan Schams from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, who studying finance; and Anita Whittner from Nassau Community College, who is studying psychology. The winners were whittled down from an original 380 applicants. The scholarship awards will be applied to winners’ college tuition fees and expenses.
