Web Host LeaseWeb Announces New Silicon Valley Data Center
Web host LeaseWeb has announced it will establish a new data center in Silicon Valley. The company, which manages around 60,000 servers, has chosen data center company Equinix Inc. to provide services for its new data center operations. The center will be set up by LeaseWeb's subsidiary, LeaseWeb USA Inc. and be housed in Equinix's SV3 facility in San Jose, California.

The new center compliments LeaseWeb's East Coast data center, which is located in Washington D.C. It is connected to a redundant worldwide IP backbone which utilizes 52 Points of Presence (PoPs), 33 Internet Exchanges (IXs), and offers 4.5 Tbps of capacity. LeaseWeb also has data centers in Europe and Asia.

LeaseWeb USA has suggested that it will use Equinix to establish more data centers in the United States. It will also extend its "West Coast portfolio" through its "flat fee" LeaseWeb Private Cloud services which allow users to "deploy and scale" Apache CloudStack-based private clouds.

The agreement between LeaseWeb USA and Equinix means that LeaseWeb USA will be able to promote its products and services (including bare metal dedicated servers, public cloud, private cloud, hybrid, colocation, and high bandwidth capacity CDN) through Equinix’s Marketplace - a network of Equinix customers where products and services are showcased and bought and sold.

“Through our West Coast expansion, we now have full U.S. coverage providing a good jumping off point into the Asia-Pacific region,” explained LeaseWeb USA Inc.'s CEO, William Schrader. “Many of our East Coast customers have requested to deploy LeaseWeb’s agile and cost-efficient bare metal dedicated servers on the West Coast as well. This agreement with Equinix provides them with expanded options provided by two trusted and global brands within the hosting and data center industries. Our hosting offerings on the West Coast, with high bandwidth and low-latency solutions available, will also cater to the needs of the extensive gaming industry located in Silicon Valley.”
