Web Host Rackspace Partners with Emic Networks

July 5, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Rackspace Managed Web Hosting and application clustering solutions for open source computing firm Emic Networks, today announced a solution partnership for the delivery of Emic Application Clustering ("EAC")(TM) with Rackspace's managed hosting services. In response to the growing need for scalable, highly available hosted solutions, Rackspace and Emic create a solution to service the continual and rapid demand from managed hosting clients that have migrated to an open source platform. This partnership further augments Emic's already strong presence as the preferred provider of application clustering solutions for enterprises using open source.

The need for the Rackspace / Emic partnership is underscored by two emerging factors in the managed hosting market. First, a growing number of organizations are adopting open source technology based on its flexibility, high performance, low acquisition cost and lower total cost of ownership. Second, a wide range of organizations -- from small and medium businesses to Fortune 500 businesses with customer intensive applications such as content delivery and e-tailing -- are increasingly reliant on managed hosting services for mission critical applications. These factors have further caused a related increase in demand for application clustering solutions that provide high availability, reliability and scalability. Emic, with its successful history of developing solutions for the open source market, is ideally positioned to support the needs of these organizations.

EAC's transparent, plug-and-play design allows it to address the unique and growing requirements of the Web hosting market. Emic's clustering solutions present a unified system image while dynamically performing load balancing, providing high availability and offering near-linear scalability and greater performance for open source application stacks. Emic offers clustering solutions for MySQL(R) databases and Apache(TM) servers, as well as for the LAMP and LAMJ (Linux(R), Apache, MySQL and PHP/Python/PERL or JSP/J2EE) stacks.

"We chose to work with Emic because their solutions align so closely with the needs of our open source clients," said Scott White, partner program manager, Rackspace Managed Hosting. "We believe that Emic's Application Clustering is a valuable component to our customers' open source configuration, delivering maximum reliability and providing another layer of assurance that makes us confident in our ability to deliver on our Fanatical Support(TM) promise to our customers."

"We expect to see continued expansion of the Web hosting market in general and open source enabled Web hosting services in particular," said Emic CEO, Eero Teerikorpi. "Our EAC solution will provide critical support as this expansion occurs. Our objective continues to be to provide the most robust offering for ensuring the continued vitality of this important market sector."
