DreamHost is now offering Solid State Drive (SSD) shared hosting options. Established in 1997, DreamHost offers a range of services alongside web hosting. These include domain registration options and cloud storage. The company caters to around 400,000 businesses. DreamHost added SSDs to its Virtual Private Servers (VPS) offerings 4 months ago and customer feedback suggested increases of speeds of around 200%.
SSD drives are significantly faster than traditional "spinning disk" drives and are not usually included as a part of shared hosting options. The benefits to shared hosting customers will be a similar boost in performance to that experienced by DreamHost's VPS customers. The company offers a range of WordPress options and its customers should see particular benefit from the inclusion of SSDs.
"We want our customers' websites to be successful," explained VP of Shared Hosting at DreamHost Kathy Brahm. "Accelerating their sites' performance with SSDs was the quickest, best way to do that." The company's shared hosting options cost from $8.95 per month and feature unlimited bandwidth and disk space.
