Web Hosting and Domain Name Provider Go Daddy Makes Donation to Support Open Source Community

March 23, 2007
March 23, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web hosting and domain name provider Go Daddy (http://www.godaddy.com) recently made a financial donation in support of the Open Source Community, it was announced yesterday. A sum of $10,000 was made to both Joomla and Simple Machines.

The Open Source Community is a collection of developers who create unique applications for use by the Internet community at large. The applications are simply downloaded and free to use. Those with programming skills have access to application source codes and are invited to either improve what already exists, or create new modules, etc. that existing applications can utilize. Joomla (http://www.Joomla.org) is a Content Management System (CMS) with roots in the Mambo initiative, while Simple Machines (http://www.SimpleMachines.org) provides an online community forum. The donations were provided to “assist in further development of their applications”.

"We are delighted that Go Daddy decided to donate to an open source project like Joomla," said Shayne Bartlett of Joomla.org. "It's refreshing to see a big tech company supporting Joomla's ambitions. Donations like Go Daddy's go a long way to covering resource costs and our continued success."

“We’re excited to see Go Daddy set this example,” said Simple Machines’ Project Manager, Amacythe. “Hopefully, the financial support will inspire other big donations too.”

“The Open Source Community really helped make the Internet what it is today,” explained Go Daddy’s President and COO, Mr. Warren Adelman. “These projects help millions of web users everyday and we are grateful to groups like Joomla and Simple Machines for moving open source initiatives forward.”

Go Daddy has provided ongoing support to the Open Source Community through providing free one-year SSL certificates to Open Source projects. The company also enables Open Source software to be installed through its Metropolis Hosting Community - a “shared-hosting resource center which allows users to pick and choose applications that will fit their needs”.
