August 21, 2007 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Web hosting and domain name provider Go Daddy (http://www.godaddy.com/) has seen a spike in the purchase of domains with the .TV extension, the company announced yesterday. The company suggests the 65 percent increase in .TV registrations on 2006 is a result of 100 million people starting to watch TV online.
People associate TV with their entertainment experience from television, explained Go Daddys President and Chief Operating Officer, Warren Adelman. Thats why .TV names are especially good for video and multimedia sites. TV is one of the most recognized two-letter symbols in the world, so its memorable and marketable.
According to Go Daddy about 5.3 billion video streams will be delivered to Internet users in the United States each month in 2007. The company cites a report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project that suggests almost one in every five adults online watch or download video on a typical day. In addition, more than half online video viewers share video links with others.
.TV domains are of course popular with television stations and media companies but also prove popular with individuals and companies. Websites that show videos and operate blogs and podcasts often use.TV domains. Go Daddys web hosting plans offer a new Quick Blogcast tool that allows users to create video and audio podcast content.
Go Daddy provides a variety of domain name registration and website hosting services alongside on-demand and other services. The company caters for more than 23 million domain names.
