1&1 is offering a range of new shared hosting options starting at £2.99 ($4.65) per month plus VAT. The company, a British provider located in Slough, just west of London, has established its new range to "deliver the ultimate performance and flexibility for hosting a website".
1&1's new options are available in both Linux and Windows and offer a range of tools located in a "Web Application Center". These include Apps for performance measurements. Using these Apps Customers can now optimize open-source website applications such as WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal, Typo3 and Magento. The company has also established a range of specially designed themes and plugins for these applications which cover security and performance functions, and enhance how a website looks through a mobile device.
The App Center also contains 40 1&1 "Click & Build Applications" with “safe mode” or “free mode” installation methods. 1&1 has also launched a new Mobile Website Builder which makes customers' websites mobile optimized. The tool allows completely new websites to be built as mobile optimized sites, or converts a design into a mobile compatible version of an existing website. In addition, 1&1 is offering 100 Web Apps that facilitate HTML code snippet integration and enhance social media sharing options.
As part of its new offerings, the company has established "App Expert Support" with advice on fixes and best practices from trained experts.
Recognizing that when websites use a lot of resources (because of traffic spikes, or use of applications that use a lot of resources, etc.) shared hosting can slow down considerably, 1&1's shared hosting "guarantees performance to ensure fast website loading times, website response times and database query results". Customer's using the company's Unlimited Plus package receive 2GB RAM free of charge.
