January 5, 2011 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – The stockings were hung by the chimney with care and those at Codero knew St. Nickolas soon would be there.
Employees themselves became “Secret Santa’s” in an effort to give area needy children gifts in the spirit of Christmas. For the second year, the infrastructure-as-a-service provider participated in the Kansas City Toys for Tots program.
The program is a 63-year old charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve that provides happiness and hope to economically disadvantaged children during the holiday season. Toys for Tots is dedicated to collecting new, unwrapped toys every October, November and December and distributing those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children. Last year, the Marine Corps fulfilled the holiday hopes of 7.4 million less fortunate children in nearly 700 communities nationwide.
Codero employees created a new spin on the typical “Secret Santa” gift drawing held during the Codero holiday luncheon. Instead of the traditional exchange in which one is assigned a person to whom they anonymously give a gift, employees bought a gift for the chosen name based on the toy they imagined that employee would have played with as a child. The gifts were then donated to Toys for Tots. Following the gift exchange, additional money was contributed by the company itself in order for employees to purchase even more toys to give to area youngsters.
The economy has taken its toll on the Toys for Tots program which was falling behind last year’s pace. By gifting the children instead of each other, the Codero employees felt good about spreading holiday cheer outside the company.
