February 28, 2006 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Last week we reported that web hosting provider Globat.com had sponsored a students MBA as part of a strategy of unique sponsorships. This week the company has again been involved in attention grabbing activity with the purchase of a 131-year-old housefly auctioned on eBay.
The fly Globat purchased was caught in St. Joseph, Missouri. It apparently landed in a copy of "Scribner's Monthly Vol. IX" which when shut trapped the fly for over 131 years. A descendent of the original owner placed the fly on eBay for auction.
"Some people might wonder why anyone would want a 131-year-old fly," suggested Ben R. Neumann, President and CEO of Globat.com. "But how many people can claim to have a fly that's over 100 years old? We can, and, who knows, perhaps it will become an important part of natural science in years to come." There was no report on how much the company spent on the fly. However, we are writing about it so I guess it was worth the money!
