Web Hosting Provider Strato Offers Solution to ‘Ham’

October 13, 2006
October 13, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – ‘Ham’, email that incorrectly been sent to your junk mail folder, is as big a problem as spam, suggests German web hosting provider Strato. According to the company, hunting for legitimate email in a sea of spam is equally as time consuming as wading through spam in your inbox.

To overcome the problem, Strato has been working with Berlin's Humboldt University to develop an email filter which it claims “spots very nearly 100 per cent of spam with not a single false positive". The technology also apparently works with phishing email using a technique known as 'social graphing' which analyses patterns of communication between addresses.

Strato believes 80 per cent of the email going through its servers is spam and plans to introduce artificial intelligence techniques to tackle next-generation junk mail. The company’s service is now available to customers in the United Kingdom.
