Yahoo to Set Up Cloud Data Center in Taiwan

August 24, 2009
August 24, 2009 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Search engine provider Yahoo announced on Thursday it will set up a cloud computing data center in Taiwan.

The announcement comes on the heels of Yahoo breaking ground on its 190,000-square-foot data center in the Lockport Industrial Park in Western New York.

The Taiwan data center buildout is part of the company's strategy to upgrade its data centers around the world into cloud computing facilities, says senior vice president Shelton Shugar for cloud computing in Taipei.

The new cloud computing data center in Taiwan will be based on the existing data center of Yahoo subsidiary Kimo.

Slated for completion in 2010, the upgrade will involve changing existing servers and adding new equipment.

Yahoo is also planning on setting up cloud computing data centers in Singapore, says Shugar.
