MARK QUIGLEY: I have extensive experience as an industry analyst and is currently SoftLayer's Director of Corporate Communications.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Can you tell us something about the history of your company and what has let to your success in this industry?
MARK QUIGLEY: One of the reasons SoftLayer has been so successful and continues to be so successful is our commitment to innovation. This allows us to be the first to market with many great products before our competitors have realized the need for them.
  • HOSTSEARCH: SoftLayer was founded in 2005, how many customers do you have at this time?
MARK QUIGLEY: Right now SoftLayer has around 26,000 customers in 140+ countries and the numbers are growing.
  • HOSTSEARCH: What are your strengths?
MARK QUIGLEY: Some of our biggest strengths are our automated provisioning allowing for customized servers to be ready and online in 1-4 hours from the time of order, and fully integrated dedicated and cloud environments allowing for communication over the private network and management from one single portal or API.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Tell our visitors about your products and services.
MARK QUIGLEY: SoftLayer provides global, on-demand data center and hosting services from facilities across the U.S. We leverage best-in-class connectivity and technology to innovate industry leading, fully automated solutions that empower enterprises with complete access, control, security, and scalability. We offer dedicated servers, cloud computing instances, and if you need a mixture of cloud and dedicated servers we are the only hosting provider that has a fully integrated solution for this.
  • HOSTSEARCH: In a recent Press Release, SoftLayer announced that it was named the 100th fastest growing company in the Lead411 Technology 500 list for 2010. Could you tell us more about this?
MARK QUIGLEY: The Lead411 Technology 500 rankings are based upon yearly revenue growth percentage from 2007 to 2009 for US-based private companies with more than $1M in revenue in 2009. SoftLayer was happy to be named in the top 100 companies that made the list.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Please share a bit about SoftLayer's data centers.
MARK QUIGLEY: All SoftLayer data centers are built upon SoftLayer's unique pod design concept, making them functionally independent with distinct and redundant resources, and fully integrated through SoftLayer's revolutionary network architecture. You can have direct control over your system in any SoftLayer data center and full access to all of SoftLayer's back-end services-all fully automated and on demand.
  • HOSTSEARCH: As we know SoftLayer has received SAS 70 Type II certification for all its data center facilities. So, what are the benefits to your customers?
MARK QUIGLEY: Having the SAS 70 Type II ensures our customers that we have certified reliable and secure hosting services. Such a review is also important for service organizations that provide services that are critical to its customers' operations-the SAS 70 Type II Certification provides third-party verification that, in turn, the organization's customers can supply for audits of their own operations (the audit meets Sarbanes-Oxley requirements).
  • HOSTSEARCH: What are the changes you expect in web hosting industry in the next 5 years?
MARK QUIGLEY: Here at SoftLayer we really think that the more and more people will begin moving away from entire Cloud environments and more to a mixed environment with both dedicated hardware and virtualized hardware. We think companies will begin to notice that there are some applications that are best for cloud and other applications that are best for dedicated environments. We also think that the hosting industry is in for a huge expansion with more companies migrating to hosted environments and cloud environments, replacing their hardware in the closet.
  • HOSTSEARCH: That will be all for my questions, Thanks very much for your time today!
    MARK QUIGLEY: Thank you.
