How To Optimize the Body and Text of a Web page

Your page should contain 200 to 1500 words. This is to give search engines a sufficient amount of content to read/index. Google for example, begins to place less importance on any body text that appears lower than 4095 characters on a page.

Make sure each paragraph relates to the general theme of the page as well as the keywords you are optimizing for. Also, make sure your body text is unique and fresh! Simply adding content taken from another website will flag your page for duplicate content and it will be excluded.

Text Size Distribution

A good-looking web page has a nice balance of large text and small text. Well optimized blogs and articles maintain a certain format of heading (large text / <h1> , <h2>, <h3> tags) followed by a paragraph (small text / <p>). This format gives a reader an easy way to skim through your document and find what they are looking for.

It`s not only humans that like this format but search engines as well! Since your page can only contain so many words, you need to make sure you do not overuse your large text. If you have 20 headings and only one paragraph, then how can you determine your focus on the subject? Similarly if you had 1 heading and 30 separate paragraphs, then what is the sub-topic of each paragraph?

The human eye likes organization and direction just as search engines do. If your web page is formatted in a way that search engine can easily red then it will be readable by actual persons as well!

Bolded Matches within Small Text

Bolded words are treated with more weight by search engines. The purpose of a bolded word is to emphasize it, which means it probably has a higher importance in describing your content than other words on the page. Again, emphasizing too many words and keywords will get your article out of scope and you may be flagged for keyword spamming!

Image Validation

I am happy to see an interest and focus from many webmasters on image validation. Remember that search engine robots do not read images, colours or text in an image; they only read the code behind that image. When you place an image in HTML make sure you to enter relevant text for the title and alt tags. For example, if your article is about Linux vps hosting, then you might want to add an image with the following tags:

Pay attention to the bolded words on the above code. Everything, from image`s name, to alt and title tags must be relevant to your article/web page`s subject, since this is what search engine can read!

Finally, if you have broken images that fail to display on your page, then you might want to remove them or fix them.


Remember that body and text optimization should not be an independent procedure. It is tight with the keywords optimization and the description of your web page. If you find that you are introducing a new topic that is not related to one of your keywords, then put this information on a new page. The more pages available to optimize, the greater the opportunity there is for your site to rank for a keyword phrase in a search engine.
