I've used and recommended Hosting Matters since 2002 (now 12/2020) I've had dozens of clients use them and I manage around 12 domains on three accounts myself.
Yes, it's true that you can't phone them, but my experience is that they respond in less than an hour to tickets, and the owner, will do anything she can to help including odd or unusual python or perl versions, help with scrambled ini files, etc. Very accommodating.
Superb response to DDOS problems, etc, and good speed from their co-lo site.
