200,000+ Students and Educators Benefit From Retail Domain Registrar Namecheap’s Education Program
More than 200,000 students and educators have benefited from retail ICANN-accredited domain registrar Namecheap, Inc.’s (Namecheap) ‘Education Program’. Established in 2001 and based in Phoenix, Arizona, United States, Namecheap has around two million customers and manages about 10 million domain names. Alongside domain names the company offers site security and privacy products and its proprietary ‘EasyWP’ managed WordPress hosting packages. Other options it provides include SSL certificates. The company was in the news late 2018 for partnering with Creative Cloud provider Adobe. Namecheap’s ‘NC.ME ’ Education Program was made available to anyone with a ‘.EDU’ email address.

Namecheap is “the world's second largest retail domain registrar” and the company has helped establish affordable web accessibility for millions. NC.ME has brought this philosophy to the education sector. The scheme has benefited students and educators in North America, the United Kingdom and Australia. Set up in 2014 it involves offering “free .me domains, and low-cost GitHub and Exposure bundles” to students and educators. The company has also provided building tools for hackathons and student technology events.

Since launch the scheme has enabled “thousands of students” to create “a free online portfolio, resume, blog – or virtually any other type of personal website”. Namecheap has also integrated NC.ME into high school and college computer science class curriculums at a number of institutions. Other initiatives have included offering workshops “designed to help inner-city high school students create their first websites” and sponsoring MedHacks 2018 at Johns Hopkins.

“Namecheap is committed to offering high quality online products and services with top-notch support for its millions of customers,” explained a company press release. “In its nearly 20 years, Namecheap has become the domain, web hosting and online services company of choice for many college students, web professionals, entrepreneurs and small businesses. Also check out the Namecheap Resource Center, a valuable online destination for useful information, tips and tutorials - all designed to help people maximize their online presence.”
