February 10, 2009 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) .ME, the ccTLD for Montenegro, has hit the two-hundred thousand registrations milestone, making it the fastest growing new launch on record, it was reported recently. Registered in Fukuoka, Japan, OpenDoor.ME was the two-hundred thousandth .ME registration.
"The appeal for dot-ME domain names is truly global," explained Predrag Lesic, Executive Director of the .ME registry
. "Beyond the United States, people and companies from countries such as Germany, France, the United Kingdom and China are registering dot-ME domain names."
The .ME extension has become popular for both personal and business uses and domains have been registered in more than 181 countries including Canada, India, Australia, Israel, Spain, the Netherlands and Montenegro. Introduced in April 2008, around 100 registrars now offer the top-level domain.
"Having hit 200,000 registered domains in a mere ten months signals to us that dot-ME is seen as a valuable online asset," added Lesic. "The best part is there are still so many great names available, in every language."
