Alibaba’s Cloud Arm Aliyun Opens Second Data Center in the United States
Alibaba’s cloud arm Aliyun has opened its second data center in the United States, the company reported recently. Although the data center is known to be in Silicon Valley, an indication of its exact location has not been released.

Established in 1999, Alibaba has headquarters in Hangzhou, China. The company is under the leadership of Executive Chairman and founder Jack Ma. Alongside cloud services, Alibaba offers a range of services including online auction hosting, money transfers, and mobile commerce. Aliyun, its cloud subsidiary, also goes under a Westernized name of “AliColoud”.

Alibaba’s data center was built to cater to the demand for Alibaba’s cloud computing and “big data” services. Aliyun’s first US-based center launched in March this year. The developments are part of a $1 billion investment in Aliyun that Alibaba announced earlier in 2015. The center will of course target customers in the United States, but also companies in the Middle East, Singapore, Japan, and Europe.

With Alibaba’s stock value decreasing over the last year, cloud computing has become an important aspect of the company’s activity. Despite Alibaba’s downturn, Jack Ma has announced that Aliyun’s value is growing at over 100 percent per annum.
