Amazon.com Offers Video on Demand

September 6, 2008
September 6, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Amazon.com is offering a video-on-demand service, it was announced recently. The service provides ad-free movies and TV shows which can be accessed through PCs and Macs. The launch of this extended service comes after the launch of a limited service two months ago. Amazon has partnered with Sony to allow users to view directly through Sony's Bravia Internet Video Link device on Bravia Flat Screen TV sets.

"The ability to watch content instantly without downloading first was among the most requested features of our customers, and now it's live," explained Amazon’s Director of Video on Demand, Mr. Roy Price.

The launch comes on the heels of the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service that “provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud” designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. The move further consolidates Amazon’s transition from a company with a business model predominantly focused on distribution of books and other physical items to a company that provides this and online services in equal parts.
