American Multinational EMC Acquires Hybrid Cloud Encryption Company CloudLink
American multinational EMC Corporation (EMC) has acquired hybrid cloud encryption company CloudLink. The company, which has headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, United States, offers a range of services including cloud and storage services alongside Big Data, data protection, security and infrastructure services. Its purchase of CloudLink will help the company focus on hybrid cloud solutions. Financial aspects of the deal were not released.

CloudLink, which is based in Canada, employs 20 staff from its headquarters in Ottowa and specializes in encryption for hybrid cloud environments. Its services provide encryption for a range of platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, IBM SoftLayer and that of EMC's own subsidiary, vCLoud Air. The company has been an EMC Select technology partner since 2013.

"CloudLink will be loosely integrated with the next major [Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud] release, and then tightly integrated in the version afterwards," explained EMC's President of Global Systems Engineering, Chad Sakac. "Our plan is to make Encryption a 'feature' -- so not try to extract material 'license fees' -- and make things really, really simple".
