Amit Zavery to Join Google Cloud
Mr. Amit Zavery is to join Google Cloud as Vice President for Engineering, it was announced this week. Mr. Zavery was formerly an executive at Oracle Cloud. He will join Thomas Kurian who took over from former Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene in January of this year. Mr. Kurian was also a former Oracle executive and Mr. Zavery’s former boss at the company (with Mr. Zavery filling his position at Oracle after his departure). He will again work under Mr. Zavery.

Apigee was acquired by Google in 2016 at a cost of $625 million. As part of Google Cloud Apigee “helps leading companies design, secure, and scale application programming interfaces (APIs)”. It offers APIs to outside developers and provides analytics and secure connections with software interfaces established with third-party applications. Offering a Cross-Cloud API Management Platform allows users to build and deliver modern applications quickly. It also allows them to “execute faster at scale and optimize costs”. Mr. Zavery will be in charge of growing Google’s entire API business.

Mr. Zavery holds an MS in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University and holds certification from Harvard Business School’s ‘Advanced Management Program’. He also holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. During an extensive period at Oracle his positions included Executive Vice President and Officer, Oracle Cloud Platform, SVP, Oracle Cloud Platform and Middleware, and SVP and GM, Integration Products, Oracle Cloud Platform. His move to Google is seen as a major loss for Oracle.
