Anita Borg Institute (ABI) and GoDaddy Partner to Advance Women in Technology
Nonprofit organization, Anita Borg Institute (ABI) and GoDaddy have partnered in a bid to advance the role of women in the realm of technology. The move comes as part of worldwide efforts to better recognize women in technology and to motivate women to take up more technology roles. GoDaddy is a platinum sponsor for the upcoming “Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing” conference which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona in October 2104.

ABI was founded by computer scientist Anita Borg. Ms. Borg’s role in technology has been a source of inspiration for many women who have flourished in the male-dominated arena. The organization has a presence in around 50 countries. Its partners include Fortune 500 enterprises and a wide range of academic institutes.

GoDaddy caters to 12 million customers globally and manages 57 million domain names. With only 10% of key roles in Silicon Valley given to women, the company has demonstrated a solid gender balance with its organization. Around 1-in-3 of its executive team are women including Nima Kelly, the company’s General Counsel, Karen Tillman, Chief Communications Officer, Barb Rechterman, who is in the role of Chief Marketing Officer, Elissa Murphy, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, and board member Betsy Rafael, formerly Apple’s Chief Accounting Officer.

"We're impressed with GoDaddy's commitment to transformation and women in technology," explained Telle Whitney, the President of ABI. "There is a wealth of research demonstrating that more diversity and greater representation of women in the workforce improve business performance and innovation. GoDaddy is clearly invested in diversity and driving opportunities for women in technology."
