Big Blue Adds Blue Box Cloud to Global Data Center Network
IBM – often referred to as “Big Blue” – has added Blue Box Cloud to its global data center network. IBM, which has headquarters in Armonk, New York, USA, is a globally recognized brand and a leader in the cloud industry. OpenStack-powered Blue Box Cloud is now available through IBM’s SoftLayer data centers. The move is a result of IBM’s purchase of Blue Box in June of this year. The news was announced at OpenStack Silicon Valley, the “Unlocked Infrastructure Conference” that is currently taking place in California, USA.

Blue Box Cloud is a dedicated “Private-cloud-as-a-Service” solution and its adoption increases IBM/SoftLayer’s range of OpenStack products and services. Its adoption also underscores IBM’s commitment to OpenStack across public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructures. It also allows users to benefit from the cost savings of the public cloud but utilize it as though it has private cloud functionality. Blue Box Cloud provides a “single management tool for OpenStack-based private clouds, regardless of location” and allows users to utilize applications and services globally without the risk of vendor lock-in.

“I’ve been impressed by the way the IBM and Blue Box engineering teams have collaborated to quickly bring Blue Box Cloud to a worldwide infrastructure platform,” explained Blue Box CTO Jesse Proudman. “Today, we’ve taken a big step toward our goal of delivering private clouds to customers anywhere in the world—and we’re offering deployment timelines that are unheard of within traditional private cloud.”
