Big Blue and Dutch Bank ABN Amro Ink Computer Infrastructure Services Deal
IBM - also known as ‘Big Blue’ - has signed a deal with ABN Amro which will see the international IT corporation provide the Dutch bank with support for a range of computer infrastructure services it runs on a cloud system. The move is designed to support the bank’s bid to cut staff by improving online services so customers will manage their finances online.

The deal is described as being “multi-billion dollar” in nature and covers a 10-year period. It underscores IBM’s moves to extend its cloud services footprint and will include the provision of fully managed services for ABN Amro’s mainframe computers, its servers, and the bank’s storage capability. IBM will also support ABN Amro’s technical support function as well as its help desk.

The ABN Amro deal comes in the wake of IBM recently winning a contract from German national airline Lufthansa, which was reported as being valued at $1.25 billion. The 7-year deal saw IBM take over full responsibility for Lufthansa IT Infrastructure and Services division. However, the deal failed to impact the company’s earnings, which fell in September prompting the company to revise it financial targets for 2015.
