Big Blue Buys DBaaS Company Compose, Inc.
IBM - traditionally known as 'Big Blue' - has bought DBaaS company Compose, Inc. The corporation, which has headquarters in Armonk, New York, USA, is a globally recognized brand and one of the leading cloud players. The move is driven by IBM’s commitment to enhancing developer productivity for Open Source and cloud data services. Financial aspects of the deal have not been released.

Established in 2010, Compose operates in a sector that is expected to be valued at $14 billion by 2019. The company has headquarters in San Mateo, California, USA, and caters to web and mobile app developers by specializing in MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, and DBaaS products. The company had raised around $6.5 million dollars in investment since launching in 2011.

“Compose’s breadth of database offerings will expand IBM’s Bluemix platform for the many app developers seeking production-ready databases built on open source,” explained IBM Cloud Data Services' General Manager, Derek Schoettle. “Compose furthers IBM’s commitment to ensuring developers have access to the right tools for the job by offering the broadest set of DBaaS service and the flexibility of hybrid cloud deployment.”
