Big Blue to Work with Universities Around the World to Train Cloud Developers
IBM - traditionally known as Big Blue - is to work with 200 universities around the world in a bid to train cloud developers. The company, which has headquarters in Armonk, New York, USA, is a globally recognized brand and one of the leading cloud players. The corporation will leverage its Bluemix Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution to "create cloud development curricula" in a bid to train reaching 20,000 students in 36 countries.

Bluemix will enable IBM to offer young developers the most current knowledge related to the field and enable them to prepare for the global workforce. It offers "over 100 tools and services of the most prominent open-source technologies" alongside IBM and third-party services which include Watson and 'Big Data' and analytics services.

Known as the "Academic Initiative for Cloud", IBM's initiative underscores the corporation's commitment to "closing the skills gap between higher education curricula and workforce needs". The participating universities will offer around 250 courses and programs that leverage Bluemix, including courses on Computer Science, Information Technology, and Analytics and Data Science. Such universities include Ben-Gurion University in Israel, Imperial College of Science in the United Kingdom, the International Institute of Information Technology in India, the National College of Ireland, the National University of Singapore, Northwestern University and University of Tokyo.

“Putting Bluemix in the hands of today’s and tomorrow’s innovators creates the opportunity to foster a new generation of talent in cloud application development," explained Sandy Carter, the General Manager for Cloud Ecosystem and Developers at IBM. "Our commitment to provide deep cloud expertise to programs aimed at future cloud developers from academics to professionals is necessary to sustain the growth our industry forecasts.”
