British CIOs Find Getting the Right Cloud Services Difficult
British CIOs are finding it difficult to choose the right cloud services, research by end-to-end technology services provider Trustmarque suggests. Trustmarque, whose head offices are in York, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, has a presence in London, Coventry, Edinburgh and Sheffield, United Kingdom. The company bills itself as “a market-leading technology solutions provider to UK private and public sector organizations” and offers a range of services which extend to software and cloud solutions, cloud advisory services, Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS), G-Cloud services, hybrid cloud and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) options alongside private cloud and managed services. The company’s research suggests the “complexity of existing IT infrastructure and services is a barrier to moving to the cloud” for CIOs.

Trustmarque’s research, entitled “IT Complexity Challenge 2015”, took in “200 UK CIOs and senior IT decision makers from large enterprises with over 1,000 employees”. The results suggest 81% of British CIOs find it difficult to “identify and implement the cloud services most suitable for their business”. 66% of CIO’s also suggest complexity is a barrier to moving to cloud migration. 74% suggest “interdependencies between different parts of their IT environment” are stopping companies “moving certain IT services” to the cloud, while 78% are of the belief that “integrating different cloud services is a challenge”.

“While cloud can undoubtedly deliver many benefits to businesses, ‘moving to the cloud’ is often in reality, easier said than done,” explained Trustmarque’s CTO, James Butler.”Selecting and implementing the right cloud services remains a challenge for CIOs. Many CIOs struggle to understand the differences between the many cloud options, what these offer them and how to choose – often because of vendor hype and a lack of clarity around the solutions on offer.”
