BulkRegister Launches Wholesale Private WHOIS Registrations

February 14, 2005
February 14, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - BulkRegister, the world’s leading business registrar, today announced the industry’s first wholesale Private WHOIS Registration service, which will end unwanted solicitations and guard against identity theft for domain owners while creating a new revenue opportunity for BulkRegister’s 27,000 member resellers. When a domain is registered, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) requires the registrant’s contact information be made public. This gives spammers, telemarketers, marketers and people with suspect motives, the ability to mine WHOIS information to send unsolicited communications. Displaying WHOIS information publicly also makes domain owners vulnerable to hijackings and identity theft. BulkRegister’s Private WHOIS Registration ends junk mail and curtails identity theft while stopping spammers and telemarketers in their tracks.

Private WHOIS Registration represents a significant opportunity for BulkRegister’s reseller members and enterprise clients to increase their revenues. BulkRegister members receive sizable discounts – from 38% up to 70% – on bulk orders of Private WHOIS Registrations, with the lowest price only $2.45 per registration during the introductory period running until March 31, 2005. With a Suggested Retail Price (SRP) of $7.95-$9.95 per unit, and margins as high as seventy percent, BulkRegister members can increase their revenues by selling Private WHOIS Registrations to their customers. BulkRegister also announced another revenue opportunity for its reseller members in the form of specially reduced pricing – from $8.99 to $6.99 – for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .us domain transfers until March 31, 2005. With this low pricing for transfers, and great margins to be realized on private registrations, BulkRegister resellers can promote transfers regardless of where the domain is held and transfer in domains whose owners would like a private registration.

BulkRegister’s Private WHOIS Registration system is simple and highly effective. BulkRegister creates a safe buffer between a domain owner and the public by replacing the name, phone number, email and mailing address of a domain registrant – including technical, administrative and billing contact information – with our own. We then generate an email address for the domain owner in the WHOIS database and forward emails to them only after filtering for spam. Even the email address we create for each domain is changed every seven to fourteen days. BulkRegister also reviews postal mail to ensure any document is legitimate before forwarding it to the domain owner. In addition, phone inquiries are referred to the owner’s private email address. Unlike Proxy services, a domain owner may disable or enable their Private WHOIS Registration service on a domain at any time, and they retain full access and control of their domain and its features at all times.

“Domain owners and resellers are inundated by spam and other unwanted communication from unscrupulous parties who cull their contact information from Public WHOIS listings. Our Private WHOIS Registration takes a domain owner’s personal information out of public view, while allowing the owner to retain full control of their domain,” said Eric Rice, General Manager of BulkRegister. “The service is an excellent example of BulkRegister responding to the needs of domain owners for more security, while also developing new products and services to drive revenues for our reseller members. This is the first of many new products for our resellers. We do not sell products retail, but we want to enable our clients to compete in the retail space.”

Buying Private WHOIS Registrations in bulk, at what is perhaps the lowest price in the industry, is a wonderful way for resellers to increase margins, and for those with multiple domain names to enjoy special pricing. Each Private WHOIS Registration pack is good for one year from the purchase date. When a user applies a unit to a domain name anytime within a year of the original purchase date, it then becomes active from that date forward for a one-year period. This allows our reseller members, and those enterprise customers with multiple domain names, to take advantage of our bulk rate deals before applying the service to specific domains.
