Canadian Web Hosting Provider HostOnFiber.com Drops Vampire-themed Site

September 23, 2006
September 23, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Canadian web hosting provider HostOnFiber.com has dropped a vampire-themed website after media reports suggested a connection between the recent shooting at a Montreal school (where a woman was killed) and a similar website.

Edmonton-based HostOnFiber.com (http://www.hostonfiber.com) has asked the online magazine Some Lives Are Different (http://www.slad.net) to leave their hosting service within 30 days. “This last week there was a Columbine-like incident that occurred here in Canada in Montreal,” Andrew Snook wrote in an email to the zine’s webmaster. “The shooter had been actively involved in a vampire website (http://www.vampirefreaks.com). After hearing about this, I had a look at their website and found it dark and inappropriate.”

After realizing www.slad.net was also vampire-themed, Mr. Snook wrote, “I was shocked to see the type of content that you have on your site. While I see that you have some warnings and require your members to be at least 18 years of age, we would still prefer not to have this type of material on our servers.”

There have been calls for stricter Internet monitoring after it was revealed that the alleged perpetrator of the Montreal shooting, Kimveer Gill, had posted threatening comments and pictures of himself with guns on a number of websites. The content on slad.net provides details on issues such as how vampires should “feed” on the blood of others while avoiding blood-borne diseases.
