Chinese cloud giant
Alibaba Cloud has launched services at its new data center in Indonesia. Alibaba Cloud, which is also known within China as ‘Aliyun’, was established in 2009. With global headquarters in Singapore, the company is the cloud computing arm of the Alibaba Group. It caters to over 2.3 million customers globally offering scalable data management and cloud computing platforms. Alibaba Cloud has a truly global presence with facilities in Australia, Japan, the Middle East and Europe. The new Indonesia center joins a global network of 17 facilities.
Alibaba Cloud’s new data center is the first ‘global’ public cloud platform available in Indonesia and its scalable services will prove a boon to the country’s startups and smaller enterprises. The facility will also help local customers address Indonesia’s rigorous data residency requirements, which require data related to Indonesian citizens be stored in the country. The facility will offer Alibaba Cloud’s full range of services including database options, security and networking, and ‘Big Data’ and analytics. The launch also underscores the company’s support for an Indonesian government scheme designed to create 1,000 startups by the end of the decade.
Alongside the launch Alibaba Cloud has announced the Indonesian launch of the Alibaba Cloud Certified Professional (ACP) program. The program will train Indonesia’s professionals and offer them certification in a number of cloud-related areas. “As the only global cloud services provider originating from Asia, we are uniquely positioned with cultural and contextual advantages to provide innovative data intelligence solutions and computing capabilities to customers across this region,” explained Alibaba Cloud’s General Manager of Asia Pacific, Alex Li.
