Chinese E-commerce Company Alibaba and Oil Refiner Sinopec Partner on Big Data
Alibaba's cloud computing arm Aliyun and China Petroleum and Chemical Corp (otherwise known as Sinopec) have partnered on 'Big Data'. The Chinese e-commerce company will provide Asia's largest oil refining company with cloud-related services and cloud-based analysis of its data. Financial aspects of the arrangement were not announced.

The move underscores the Chinese government's policy as far as state enterprises are concerned, having placed strong emphasis on adoption of cloud computing and Big Data to maximize efficiency. "By helping Sinopec with digitisation and big data technologies, we hope we can play a part to help bring about greener solutions and new business opportunities," explained Allen Zhang, Aliyun's Cloud Computing Business Director in a statement.

Aliyun has cornered around a quarter of the Chinese cloud market, and its parent body raised $25 billion on the US Stock Exchange in September of last year. The company will establish a range of solutions for Sinopec, each of which addresses aspects the organization's entire range of petrochemical services activity. The organizations are also discussing partnerships in other areas, including Internet of Things (IoT) implementation and activity related to online payments.
