Cloud and Datacenter Software Solutions Provider Mesosphere Adds Stanford Cloud Systems Researcher Christos Kozyrakis to Executive Team
Cloud and datacenter software solutions provider Mesosphere has added Stanford cloud systems researcher Christos Kozyrakis to its executive team. Mr. Kozyrakis will work under Mesosphere's co-founder Tobi Knaup and utilize his academic and industrial research to manage the company's cluster and engineering activity.

Mesosphere, which has headquarters in San Francisco and an office in Hamburg, Germany, creates software that manages clouds and datacenters. The move is intended to strengthen the company's ability to deliver highly scalable solutions. A former Google employee, Mr. Kozyrakis joins Mesosphere from his previous position at Stanford University, where he taught as a faculty member since 2002. He most recent position at the university was Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science . He was also head of Stanford's Multi-scale Architecture and Systems Team (MAST), a group that conducts research into areas such as runtime management environments and software for datacenters.

Most recently Mr. Kozyrakis was involved in research that investigated datacenter efficiency. His most famous research was the Quasar project which earlier this year produced a scheduling algorithm designed to improve CPU and memory utilization in server clusters. He has Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.

"Christos is one of academia's rock stars in cloud computing and we're excited to bring his insights to our team," explained the of CEO Mesosphere, Florian Leibert. "His breakthrough research at Stanford will deliver unprecedented resource efficiencies to Mesosphere's customers. We expect these will have a massive impact on their datacenters and cloud computing infrastructures, as much as tripling resource efficiency and utilization compared to what we typically see today."
