Cloud and Search Giant Google Acquires Web Host Divshot
Cloud and search giant Google has acquired web host Divshot. The company, whose headquarters are in Mountain View, California, United States, has made the move to strengthen its web hosting capabilities and strengthen its Firebase activity. Divshot is an HTML5 web-hosting platform and it will be absorbed into Firebase on December 14, 2015.

Firebase, which was established in 2011, was purchased by Google in October 2014. It specializes in providing cloud and backend services and develops software designed to enable developers to build mobile and/or web applications. Divshot has released a migration roadmap for customers to enable them to migrate their projects from Firebase to Divshot.

“We're excited to announce that Divshot has joined the Firebase team at Google!” explained a company statement on its website. “Firebase is a comprehensive suite of products for developers offered by Google, and by joining our vision with theirs, Divshot's mission continues onward at a grander scale! Firebase Hosting is Firebase's static web hosting service and is now powered in part by Divshot technology. If you're an existing Divshot customer you can easily transition to Firebase Hosting, just visit the migration guide to learn more.”

“As a cofounder of Divshot, I’m excited to bring the best parts of Divshot’s technology to Firebase Hosting,” explained Firebase engineer Michael Bleigh on the Firebase website. “We’re launching a brand new Firebase command-line interface today with a local static web server powered by Divshot’s open-source Superstatic library. Now you can develop locally with all of your rewrites, redirects, and other Firebase Hosting options. There’s more on the way, so stay tuned!”
