Cloud communications Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) company Twilio Inc. (
Twilio) is to acquire email API platform provider SendGrid Inc. (SendGrid). Twilio, which has headquarters in San Francisco, California, United States, was established in 2008. The company’s services help businesses to communicate with customers by enabling software developers to build phone calls, emails and text messages into solutions using its web service APIs. Twilio’s acquisition of SendGrid is intended to extend its technology capabilities and reportedly will cost the company $2 billion in an all-stock transaction.
SendGrid, which has headquarters in Denver, Colorado, United States, offers automated email solutions. Established in 2009, the company bills itself as “a proven cloud-based customer communication platform” that “delivers over 45 billion emails each month”. Its customer base includes impressive names like Taco Bell, Intuit, Airbnb, Pandora, Hubspot, Spotify, Uber, and FourSquare. Together the two companies will have more than 100,000 customers and will represent a “best-in-class cloud communications platform”.
