Cloud Company ElasticHosts Finds CIOs Put off By Lack of IT Support for Cloud Services
Cloud company ElasticHosts has conducted a survey which suggests some CIOs may have been put off the cloud. The survey cites a lack of IT support for cloud-based services as a major factor in CIOs views.

ElasticHosts’ commissioned the research, which took in 200 British CIOs, and found that while the bulk of companies surveyed use the cloud (93%), around three quarters of CIOs felt that the cloud forced them to sacrifice service and support. 33% suggested the cloud required them to ‘forfeit’ IT support, while 84% suggested cloud providers should be more willing to take the support burden off companies’ IT staff. Problems cited included poor slow response times (47%) and poor technical knowledge among support staff (41%). 80% of those surveyed resented paying a premium for additional support.

“Many companies adopt cloud so they can take away the headaches related to managing their IT, and reduce the burden on in-house IT staff,” suggested ElasticHosts’ CEO, Richard Davies. “Therefore, the need for ongoing support and services will naturally be reduced, as it is outsourced. Yet, when using any service, you want to be able to ask questions – whether that’s to learn how to configure a server or to query a bill – and you should be able to do this without having to pay a hefty premium.”

ElasticHosts, whose head office is in Chiswick, London, United Kingdom, provides a range of cloud offerings. These include virtual VPS and elastic containers alongside a white-label reseller program and an extensive referral and reseller partner program. It has facilities in key cities around the world including Portsmouth and Maidenhead in the UK, Amsterdam, Netherlands, San Jose, Los Angeles, Texas, USA, Toronto, Canada and Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia.
