Cloud Company EMC Corporation Acquires Cloud and IaaS Company Virtustream
Cloud company EMC Corporation has acquired cloud and IaaS company Virtustream. The company, also known as EMC², has headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, USA. Alongside cloud computing, it specializes in data storage, information security, virtualization, and analytics. Reports suggest its acquisition of Virtustream will cost in the region of $1.2 billion in a single cash payment. Rodney Rogers, Virtustream's CEO and a co-founder of the organization, will remain with the company and be under Joseph M. Tucci, EMC Corporation's CEO.

Virtustream, which was established in 2009, will be fully absorbed by EMC and become part of its Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud, but remain an independent entity. The company has some major clients including Coca Cola, Kawasaki and Heinz. It specializes in life-cycle automation for "task-specific" enterprise applications.

The deal will be finalized in the spring, adding Virtustream to a significant list of EMC acquisitions that includes Clouscaling, Maginatics.and Spaning.

“With Virtustream in place, EMC will be uniquely positioned as a single source for our customers’ entire hybrid cloud infrastructure and service needs. It’s a game changer,” explained Mr. Tucci in a company press release. “Virtustream has established itself as an industry leader and innovator for running mission-critical enterprise applications in the cloud,” added Rodney Rogers, Virtustream Chairman and CEO. “We’re proud to be joining the EMC Federation where our combined capabilities, products and services will allow us to accelerate our vision of delivering the platform of record for enterprise systems, and address the complete breadth of cloud computing needs”.
