Cloud Giant Alibaba Opens UK-based Data Centers
Cloud giant Alibaba Cloud (Alibaba) has opened two new data centers in the United Kingdom. Alibaba is a leader in the cloud arena and has headquarters in Singapore. The company is the cloud computing arm of China’s Alibaba Group, known as ‘Aliyun’ within the region. It has a presence in the Middle East, Europe, Australia and Japan where it offers cloud computing and data management services. Its new UK-based data centers will strengthen its presence in Europe and the Middle East.

The two new facilities are Alibaba's first the UK and both located in London. They join the company’s network of facilities which include EMEA cloud operations in Frankfurt and Dubai. The centers feature robust security and monitoring support. Alibaba's move is intended to address increased demand for its services in the regions, and in particular activity in the EMEA region. Amongst other offerings, the data centers will offer cloud-based storage and database and ‘Big Data’ services. Alibaba now has 52 availability zones globally.
