Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced it is extending its presence in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. AWS is part of the Amazon Group of companies and very much a leader in global cloud activity. With headquarters in Seattle, Washington, United States, the company’s products and services include compute and storage options alongside, the Internet of Things (IoT), security and enterprise applications. It will establish a brand new corporate campus in Fairfax.
AWS’ new campus will be located at One Dulles Tower in Fairfax County. The campus will allow the company to offer its cloud offerings to government, educational organizations, and enterprises in the area. Virginia was in competition with Washington and Texas as a location for the new campus, which will generate up to 1,500 new jobs. The efforts of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and Virginia’s General Assembly’s Major Employment and Investment (MEI) Project Approval Commission helped secure AWS for the state. Once 600 new jobs have been created, AWS is in a position to receive an MEI custom performance grant of up to $7,000 per net new job.

Because it was a priority to win this transformational project, we partnered with Virginia’s Major Employment and Investment Project Approval Commission to ensure that AWS chose the Commonwealth. We have a longstanding relationship with Amazon and are proud that the company will continue to play a key role in building the new Virginia economy.”
