Cloud Giant AWS to Acquire Video Solutions Provider Elemental
Cloud giant Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) is to acquire video solutions provider Elemental Technologies, Inc. (Elemental). AWS, which was established in 2006, has headquarters in Seattle, Washington, USA. It is a globally recognized brand which specializes in “remote computing services” such as cloud storage. Financial aspects of its purchase of Elemental were not released.

Elemental bill themselves as “pioneers in software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery”. The company’s solutions effectively scale Internet-based video delivery. Established in 2006, it has headquarters in Portland, Oregon, USA. Elemental will operate as an independent entity post-acquisition, maintain its brand, and further integrate its offerings with AWS. The company will also “accelerate the innovation of next-generation services” for the cloud.

Elemental caters to a range of customers including TV operators, content programmers, broadcasters, governments, and enterprise customers, including the BBC, CNNGo, ESPN ScoreCenter, HBO GO, MSNBC Shift, and Sky Go and Sky Now. The acquisition adds Elemental’s video solutions to AWS’ cloud platform and benefits media and entertainment companies in particular.

“The media and entertainment industry is at a unique inflection point, and as a part of Amazon, we will be in an even stronger position to help our customers delight their viewers globally,” explained Elemental’s co-founder and CEO, Sam Blackman. “We’re thrilled to have Amazon supporting our growth and ongoing commitment to our customers’ success.”
