Cloud giant Google is targeting startups by offering up to $100,000 in cloud platform credits. The offer is being specifically made to "early stage" startups and the offer is available for one year. The move is aimed at enticing new companies to host the applications in Goolge's cloud infrastructure and not that of competitors like Amazon and Microsoft. The announcement was posted on the Google blog on Friday, September 12, 2014.
Google's offer comes after the initiation of its "
Google Cloud Platform for Startups" program which was launched at the recent Google for Entrepreneurs Global Partner Summit. Those eligible include companies that have not been operating more than five years and who earn less than $500,000 per year. A company must also be involved in the accelerator programs that Google has already partnered with, or be taking advise from an incubator or investment from a venture capital company that Google partners with.
"This offer supports our core Google Cloud Platform philosophy: we want developers to focus on code; not worry about managing infrastructure. Starting today, startups can take advantage of this offer and begin using the same infrastructure platform we use at Google," explained Google's blog post. "Thousands of startups have built successful applications on Google Cloud Platform and those applications have grown to serve tens of millions of users," it added.
