Cloud Giant Microsoft Acquires Affirmed Networks
Cloud giant Microsoft has acquired fully virtualized, cloud-native mobile core solution provider Affirmed Networks. Affirmed Networks, which has headquarters in Acton, Massachusetts, United States, was established in 2010. The company bills itself as “Powering the World Wide Wireless Web” and offers “the world’s only” fully virtualized, cloud-native mobile core solution. The solution has been deployed over more than 80 networks, including those provided by major Tier 1 operators like “AT&T, Vodafone, Du, Digicel, Etisalat, Softbank, Turkcell and more” to provide 3G, 4G, 5G and Wi-Fi mobile services.

Affirmed Networks’ virtualization and 5G solutions will become part of Microsoft and enable the corporation to feature more prominently as a provider to the telecommunications industry. Microsoft will be able to add “new and innovative solutions” that meet the exact needs of its operator customers and enable them to manage their network workloads in the cloud. The deal benefits Microsoft’s Azure cloud network functions by offering Affirmed Networks’ virtualization (NFV) for mobile service providers and 5G wireless services.

“This acquisition will allow us to evolve our work with the telecommunications industry, building on our secure and trusted cloud platform for operators,” explained Microsoft’s corporate VP of Azure Networking, Yousef Khalidi. “With Affirmed Networks, we will be able to offer new and innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of operators, including managing their network workloads in the cloud. “Upon the close of this transaction, Affirmed Networks, the company that we built from the ground-up to become an industry-transforming leader in virtualization and 5G, will become part of Microsoft,” added Affirmed Networks CEO Anand Krishnamurthy.
