Microsoft has acquired Big Data/data management company startup Metanautix in a move that is intended to strengthen its intelligent cloud capability. Microsoft, which has headquarters in Redmond, Washington, United States, is a globally recognized brand whose Azure cloud computing platform competes with the likes of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google. Financial aspects of the deal were not released.
Metanautix, which was established in 2012, has received $7 million in venture capital to date. The company has headquarters in Palo Alto, California, United States and specializes in business analytics. Its solutions enable enterprises to base business strategy on insights derived from their data. Microsoft will absorb Metanautix’s technology, which will become part of Microsoft’s data platform – particularly its SQL Server and the Cortana Analytics.
”Today I’m pleased to announce that Microsoft has acquired Metanautix, an innovative company that is helping solve one of the biggest challenges in the world of data analytics: How can a company bring all of its data together for analytics to gain powerful insights, discover new opportunities and drive growth through intelligent automation?”, explained Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of the Data Group, Joseph Sirosh. “Companies continue to generate enormous volumes of information and aspire to be more data-driven in their strategies and operations. But many struggle to bring together their various sources and siloes of data, and only analyze and use a fraction of all the available information. Metanautix’ technology breaks these boundaries to connect the “data supply chain,” no matter what the type, size or location of an organization’s data,” he added.
