Cloud Infrastructure and Business Mobility Leader VMware to Acquire Cloud Metrics Monitoring Service Wavefront
Cloud infrastructure and business mobility leader VMware is to acquire cloud metrics monitoring service Wavefront. VMware has headquarters in Palo Alto, California, United States. The company’s data center, mobility, and security solutions help organizations establish a “software-defined approach to business and IT”. In 2016 the company generated $7.09 billion in revenue and it has 500,000+ customers globally. VMware’s acquisition of Wavefront will accelerate delivery of its cross-cloud management services.

Wavefront, which has headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, bills itself as “the ultimate metrics monitoring service for cloud and modern application environments”. Its cloud-hosted service offers monitoring that delivers the operational insights required to optimize clouds and modern applications. The real-time highly observable metrics it generates exposes a range of problems and identifies bottlenecks. The service can scale to “support the largest data center needs”. While financial aspects of the acquisition were not released, it was suggested that VMware will fully absorb Wavefront's platform and the deal would be finished by the end of June 2017.

"VMware set the standard for monitoring virtual environments with VMware vRealize Operations, and we will set the standard for cross-cloud and modern application monitoring with Wavefront," explained the Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Management Business Unit, VMware, Ajay Singh. "It delivers a radically new scope and scale of metrics monitoring and analytics to help developers improve the performance, availability and customer experience of their digital services. When combined with the vRealize product portfolio, digital enterprises will gain a complete view from network through infrastructure to applications."
