Step Ahead Solutions, Inc. (SAS) has launched "On Demand Laptop" (ODL), a Computer-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution it claims is the "world’s first". The solution offers access cloud-based agnostic computing resources that have been customized to meet a user's specific needs. The solution provides everything required for users to develop their own applications, and the service is charged on an "as used" basis rather than a set monthly fee.
SAS specializes in providing "turn-key" solutions for customers wishing to leverage public and hybrid clouds, data warehousing, and mobile technology. Its ODL solution provides a "fully configured computer" which runs a wide range of software. Users pick the software they need alongside the Operating System (OS) required. Users can then fully customize their 'computer' without the need of physically installing and configuring any software. It operates in the same fashion as a computer, allowing users to shut down and restart it as required.
"This is the world’s first true Computer as a Service available. It's very exciting stuff," explained SAS's CEO Robert Joseph. "Unlike our competitors' offerings, you pay for this service as you go instead of a flat monthly fee; essentially you only pay for what you actually use. Besides you can share your ODL, distribute it to your team and do more with it. We're excited to make this available to the public and know that it will be a tool that almost anyone and everyone will be able to take advantage of."
